Where do I start? Are you the quirk / pretty princess / MISS refined / always OTT / the sexy siren or the ‘whatever’ chick?

Your Personal Style is defined by your personality, hobbies and lifestyle. Most people identify with a few different styles but have you found that one style that truly speaks to you?

If not let me help you define your style…..

Step One:

Find out who your ultimate style icon is

Start by researching via Instagram/ Pinterest/ Google and create a board of outfits worn by your style icons. People generally say something like ‘well, I like Gwen Stefani’s street style but I also like a mixture of JLO’s cutting edge aesthetic and the hippy chick in Nicole Ritchie’. So Initially you will start with a number of fashionistas and then you will notice who repeatedly appears. You’ll also figure out what you like and don’t like– This is where you’ll discover who your style influencers you.

Step Two:

Hone in on their style

Look further and focus in on the outfits being worn. How would you describe the clothes they are wearing? What draws your attention in? Are they feminine, soft and flowy? Bold, loud and confident? Or comfortable, sporty and casual? Use this description as a starting point and add and refine it until you can completely resonate with it.

Step Three:

Re-acquaint yourself with your wardrobe

Keeping this new defined style in mind, go through your wardrobe and find all the pieces that fall in this category. Toss everything out that doesn’t speak to you so you can start to refine your new exciting style.

Step Four:

The nitty gritty

Look thoroughly through your smaller wardrobe.

You will find a lot of duplicates. These are the pieces that make you feel comfortable and happy. These are your staple pieces. It’s OK to have a few similar pieces as long as they are not basically the same thing.

You’ll also find a few ‘out there’ pieces which represent a style that you like but you’re not completely comfortable with. If you feel your style is constantly evolving, keep these pieces. However, if it has been a while since you last wore it then it’s better to take these pieces out and make space for your new style.

Step Five:

Be a smart shopper!

Don’t buy on impulse

Make time to check how tightly the buttons have been sewn in, test the zips, check the hem and stitching. If you are going to buy discounted clothing, purchase them from well-known quality brands and avoid fast fashion.

Splurge on staple pieces for your wardrobe (quality jacket or blazer, classic pair of shoes, comfortable high quality jeans etc)

Step Six:

Polish your look.

Accessories are your cherry on the top. From statement necklaces, beach hats to patterned scarves. Accessories will always compliment an outfit and will help you pull off the look you are trying to create so it’s good to have a wide range of accessories to work with.

Step Seven:

Accentuate your assets

What are your favourite physical features or what do people usually compliment you on?

If people say you’ve got gorgeous toned arms, then wear sleeveless tops that draw attention to your arms. If your favourite physical feature is your long hair, then wear your hair down or in hairstyles that show off the length of your beautiful hair.

Step Eight:

It’s all about style not size

As long as you have confidence you can make anything look fabulous!

We need to change our mind-set about fitting into a small clothing size. Don’t let a number define who we are as individuals.

Step Nine:

Feel good in your own skin

You have refined your personal style which is a true representation of who you are

Embrace fashion, own your personal style and flaunt your individuality and personality.

Now go and celebrate the New You!

The rules are ‘there are NO rules!’ Anything goes...........

Every personality has a personal style to suit.

There are 7 main styles of dressing:

Natural

Classic

Elegant

Dramatic

Sexy

Feminine

Creative

Let’s talk about the CREATIVE STYLE!!

People with a creative style are original individuals who are always on the lookout for new combinations that express their own personality. This style comes naturally – you basically have it or don’t.  They can wear a rubbish bag and still look so bloody good in it and the rule is ‘There are no rules!’

The creative mixes anything and everything – from formal to sportswear, hard rock to soft and sweet.  They love juxtapositions and constantly get eyed up and down – they basically dress how they feel and as a result unintentionally dress to shock!!

Creatives are bold, innovative and enjoy to make statements. Of course your outfits clash however it is overshadowed by your confidence and tude.

Some of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe I have nicked from my husband’s wardrobe and they include his blue jeans. I love that baggy feeling when they sit loosely on my hips; not only do they fit better but they even look better. Plus, isn’t it a good feeling wearing your Mr’s clothing?

I was looking forward to working on this next #dancingstylist video because casual style isn’t one of my strengths so I knew I was up for a challenge when putting together this casual outfit. For me it was important that this look still had the Kila’s Style touch of being extreme.

My husband is 1.8metres tall so I knew instantly I would be cuffing the jeans. Cuffing of the jeans automatically brings style to almost any casual outfit. It also allows you to accentuate your dressy shoes.

I teamed my boyfriend jeans up with the gorgeous Karishma Design Krysta ballet wrap top which then gave my outfit that touch of femininity. What I love about ballet wrap tops is that there are so many ways you can wear them. So the boyfriend jeans went from super casual to casual and comfortable yet stylish.

Then to take it to the next level, I added some OTT 80’s inspired earrings and the fake fur necklace and opted for a muted colours theme as the accessories and features of both the jeans and top were just enough to create a balanced look.

And as a result – My rendition of boyfriend jeans in a street style sense.

As people are winding down for the year Team Kila’s are in full swing!

Man, it’s a great feeling to work with a team who are in sync with your thoughts. No longer are we running around like headless chooks gasping for air. For a while there we were turning craZy chasing our own tails, doing things for the sake of it. We lost the vision, the inspiration and the hope. Then we had that awkward conversation about what we as individuals wanted out of Kila’s and now our awesome team of 3 are united working towards the same goals which personify our passion.

The bread roll, sushi roll and crab are now in-sync!

The bread roll, sushi roll and crab are now in-sync!

We have our own individual strengths which as a team we utilise for the best outcome and we assist each other when we come up against personal obstacles. Our values we stand for are a true representation of who we are as individuals and as Team Kila’s.

Every now and then I test our team and ask them what our vision, mission and values (VMV) are. It’s always an awkward cicada moment with no eye contact. lol It’s important we know these inside out as it’s a reminder of who we are and what our purpose is. Everything we do needs to be in alignment with our VMV in order for us to grow. However to be honest I am still trying to memorise the last few values. One day I’m sure someone from our team is going to put me on the spot and show me up with the same question.

Meet John; John has a Bachelor of Design majoring in textiles. As you can see his fashion sense is out of this world furthermore his creative thought process is truly heaven sent! He’s been with us for nearly 2 years and from day one John has been wowing me with his flamboyance. He offers much much more than just his painted nails and PRADA bag though :)

Ty is determined, diligent, and resolute. If we need things done, she is our GO TO GIRL. She has been with us since day one and has blossomed into an astute young lady. May I add ‘on this occasion only’ that she is my niece. We have figured out how to make our relationship work when it comes to Kila’s. I don’t see her as my niece and she doesn’t see me as her aunt – and it works for us!

This recreational process has been a blessing for Kila’s Style. We are so amped as we work on some exciting upcoming projects which includes our new ‘Dancing Stylist’ feature that will go live next month!  With weekly catch ups that keep us both accountable and inspired I know for a fact Team Kila’s is definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with as we get ready for 2016!

Team Kila’s is a lil bit of Nora, John, Ty and a lot of PASSION.

Customised Costume Consultation

The aim is always OTT!!

I went to a ‘hawaii’ themed party and rather than hire a costume I decided to create my own costume using clothes and accessories I already owned.

I offer a Customised Costume Consultation service where I put together a costume that is going to stand out in the crowd. We can use clothes from your current wardrobe; get an entire new outfit or a combination of both.
