Your Personal Style is defined by your personality, hobbies and lifestyle. Most people identify with a few different styles but have you found that one style that truly speaks to you?

If not let me help you define your style…..

Step One:

Find out who your ultimate style icon is

Start by researching via Instagram/ Pinterest/ Google and create a board of outfits worn by your style icons. People generally say something like ‘well, I like Gwen Stefani’s street style but I also like a mixture of JLO’s cutting edge aesthetic and the hippy chick in Nicole Ritchie’. So Initially you will start with a number of fashionistas and then you will notice who repeatedly appears. You’ll also figure out what you like and don’t like– This is where you’ll discover who your style influencers you.

Step Two:

Hone in on their style

Look further and focus in on the outfits being worn. How would you describe the clothes they are wearing? What draws your attention in? Are they feminine, soft and flowy? Bold, loud and confident? Or comfortable, sporty and casual? Use this description as a starting point and add and refine it until you can completely resonate with it.

Step Three:

Re-acquaint yourself with your wardrobe

Keeping this new defined style in mind, go through your wardrobe and find all the pieces that fall in this category. Toss everything out that doesn’t speak to you so you can start to refine your new exciting style.

Step Four:

The nitty gritty

Look thoroughly through your smaller wardrobe.

You will find a lot of duplicates. These are the pieces that make you feel comfortable and happy. These are your staple pieces. It’s OK to have a few similar pieces as long as they are not basically the same thing.

You’ll also find a few ‘out there’ pieces which represent a style that you like but you’re not completely comfortable with. If you feel your style is constantly evolving, keep these pieces. However, if it has been a while since you last wore it then it’s better to take these pieces out and make space for your new style.

Step Five:

Be a smart shopper!

Don’t buy on impulse

Make time to check how tightly the buttons have been sewn in, test the zips, check the hem and stitching. If you are going to buy discounted clothing, purchase them from well-known quality brands and avoid fast fashion.

Splurge on staple pieces for your wardrobe (quality jacket or blazer, classic pair of shoes, comfortable high quality jeans etc)

Step Six:

Polish your look.

Accessories are your cherry on the top. From statement necklaces, beach hats to patterned scarves. Accessories will always compliment an outfit and will help you pull off the look you are trying to create so it’s good to have a wide range of accessories to work with.

Step Seven:

Accentuate your assets

What are your favourite physical features or what do people usually compliment you on?

If people say you’ve got gorgeous toned arms, then wear sleeveless tops that draw attention to your arms. If your favourite physical feature is your long hair, then wear your hair down or in hairstyles that show off the length of your beautiful hair.

Step Eight:

It’s all about style not size

As long as you have confidence you can make anything look fabulous!

We need to change our mind-set about fitting into a small clothing size. Don’t let a number define who we are as individuals.

Step Nine:

Feel good in your own skin

You have refined your personal style which is a true representation of who you are

Embrace fashion, own your personal style and flaunt your individuality and personality.

Now go and celebrate the New You!

Care to share what’s really going on under there? This is me and I love what I see!!

First things first, let’s thank GOD almighty for making us in his image and creating us in different shapes and sizes. He then accessorised by giving us our own individual features. From the slender to curvaceous, the As to the DDs, a gorgeous behind, thigh gap/no thigh gap, smooth skin, scars – the list goes on and on.

But one word describes it all – BEAUTIFUL!!

It took me a while to understand and embrace both my vulnerabilities and strengths as a person. But once I finally recognised them my confidence naturally grew. What cemented my self-assurance was having my teenage daughter Kirin innocently point out features of mine that she thought were problematic. Naturally it set an alarm bell in my head and from then onwards I knew I needed to set an example for both my daughters.

Scenario One:

I tend to wear sleeveless tops and one day she asked:

K: ‘Mum, why do you always like to show your arms, your arms are so hairy?’

N: ‘yeah, I know but that’s OK. I’m used to them now and I quite like them’

K: ‘Why do you like them?’

N: ‘Because they are mine’.

Scenario Two:

When I wore my first bikini to the beach:

K: ‘Mum, why do you like to wear bikinis when you have stretch marks?’

N:‘I’m wearing it because we are going to the beach and I want to wear it. Plus, the sun’s out today so it’s going to let me tan them at the same time’.

This one really caught me by surprise because here I was testing my own confidence by wearing a bikini out in the open and then she asked the one question that made me want to go and hide under my bed.

I then told her how we shouldn’t limit ourselves on what we can and can’t do based on how we look because it was only restricting us from learning, experiencing, growing and living.

If there’s one thing I would LOVE to pass onto my daughters it is SELF-CONFIDENCE.

You need to learn to love yourself first in order to love your loved ones wholeheartedly.

Don’t just preach it; be living proof!

Sooooo in saying that I am now going to share with you this GREAT TIP I used which helped boost my own self-confidence.

PS: It is a bit cheeky however no-one will ever know about your sexy secret that’s going on under there :)

Whenever you need a pick me up boost of self-confidence:

  • Wear your favourite or sexiest underwear. Yes, I mean the underwear that usually only your significant other sees.

And if you need next level BOSS LADY confidence:

  • Wear no underwear at all!

I guarantee you if your under garments are ‘hot to trot’ you will be the SEXY, EMPOWERED, FEMININE BEAUTY and you’ll find you will start to build a positive relationship with your body regardless of your size. Furthermore you will discover that you have more favourite features than you initially thought.

After a few weeks of wearing your sexy undergarments or going commando, you’ll be walking tall with confidence and easily preaching ‘THIS IS ME AND I LOVE WHAT I SEE!’
